From Grieving Aging to

Aging Gracefully with Mindfulness

We are all aging. For some, it is more at top of mind and heart.

Aging brings up many emotions and responses, sometimes more than one at once: grief, wisdom, loss, freedom, discomfort, surrender, anxiety, fear, being carefree.

What is at top of mind for you?

We welcome them all.

"In a society that reveres youth, we see aging as something bad and to avoid. Our bodies are changing, we are wrinkling, we may experience new aches and pains, we might not be able to do the things we used to, though it varies from person to person. You may be sensing more isolation, lost sense of purpose, fear of the body failing. Depending on your age bracket, fighting aging can become a real hobby or even work and effort.

Age does not define who we are at the core. Our bodies are part of our wholeness and have a lot to teach, helping us recognize that as life progresses and things change, we can still make the most of the moment. Research also shows the benefits of applying mindfulness to aging. Overall, mindfulness offers a platform for a healthier mental and emotional wellbeing.

“Age does not define who we are at the core. Our bodies are part of our wholeness and have a lot to teach, helping us recognize that as life progresses and things change, we can still make the most of the moment.”

Social media is overwhelmed with anti-aging product ads and there is now an increase in product promotions using images of older adults doing sit ups and pushups. While we are worried that teenagers are suffering from different forms of pressure on social media, the same is true for older adults. It is important to recognize that it does not mean that we are failing, or less than, if our bodies cannot do the activities social media depicts.

“With mindfulness, we create a healthy sense of self and wise acknowledgement of our current capacities and being with what is truly here.”
